Changing email platforms is a data and workflow migration, not just a CSV import. A safe move preserves opt-outs, permission records, important automations and domain authentication. Plan the new setup before cancelling the old account, and confirm each provider’s current transfer and sending rules.

Inventory before you export

  • List audiences, tags, segments, forms, templates and integrations.
  • Identify active, unsubscribed, bounced and suppressed contacts separately.
  • Record how and when each contact gave permission, including form wording where available.
  • List automations and identify any that must pause during the transition.
  • Check current billing, data retention and export options on both platforms.

Import carefully and rebuild deliberately

Import only contacts you are entitled to market to, keeping unsubscribed and suppressed contacts out of active promotional audiences. Map fields and labels intentionally; do not assume two platforms use the same definition for a tag, group, segment or audience.

Rebuild the most important form and welcome workflow first. Test confirmation, links, preferences and unsubscribe handling with internal addresses before pointing live traffic at the new form.

Protect sending reputation

Follow MailerLite’s current instructions for domain authentication and sender verification. Keep the old platform available until key forms and workflows are confirmed, then plan the transition so recipients are not sent duplicate or conflicting messages.

A move can be a good time to remove invalid addresses and review consent quality, but do not silently add old contacts to a new list. Compare costs first with our MailerLite pricing guide and Mailchimp comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Can I transfer Mailchimp subscribers to MailerLite?

You can export and import contact data where platform terms and applicable rules allow, but preserve consent and suppression information and follow each provider’s current import requirements.

Should I import unsubscribed contacts?

Do not add unsubscribed people to active marketing audiences. Preserve suppression information as needed to avoid contacting people who opted out.

Will switching platforms improve deliverability?

Not by itself. Deliverability depends on list permission, sender authentication, content, recipient behaviour and mailbox filtering. A poorly planned migration can make it worse.
